Video · Story

The ocean doesn't need a hurricane to take American ground. It just needs time. And along this coast... time is running out. By 2050, the sea along the American coast will rise another thirty centimetres. As much as it rose in the entire last century. And ninety-five million Americans live right on that edge. In New Orleans, whole neighbourhoods already sit below the sea. In Norfolk, home of the world's largest naval base, the land sinks as the water climbs. And in Miami, the ocean doesn't come over the wall. It comes up through the ground. She has stood at the water's edge for a hundred and forty years. The question is no longer whether the water rises. It's how much of this coast... we choose to keep.
